Memorial Day weekend was a busy weekend at our house. My sister, Melissa, her husband, Marty, and 3 of the kids (Morgan, Luke and Josh) came to visit. Uncle Greg and Calyn were able to join us too, but Aunt Emily was out of town most of the weekend. We had planned to spend the majority of the weekend out on the boat, but the wonderful Kansas wind and oddly cool temps on Saturday took care of that plan. I am not sure but I would think that all of the Kansas weathermen went out drinking every night over this past weekend...I sure would have if I were them. I do not think that the forecast could have been more off base. Oh well, we had a great weekend anyway!
Saturday morning we went to the Sedgwick County Zoo. Kyley's first time at the zoo by the way!!! Although it was a bit cool, wet and windy, it was completely comfortable yet muggy once inside. The dads went golfing though, and they were not too impressed with the weather especially since they left the house in shorts and short sleeves. The Forman's live in Omaha so this was not the Henrly Dorly Zoo, but it truly is a great zoo and was perfect for burning off some energy! Kyley and Calyn were entertained watching all the people, animals and of course their cousins, Morgan, Josh and Luke, buzzing around them. We made it through with a minor knee injury and 5 starving and tired kids...two REALLY tired little girls!
We spent a lot of time just playing and talking at the house. However, we don't really have anything too entertaining for young little boys, so we had to think quick. We attempted to go out on the boat Sunday morning. We made it about an hour. After the boat almost didn't make it through the channel because the wind pushed it sideways, losing a hat and dish, having sand blowing in our faces, holding on to everything including ourselves, and many failed attempts to carry on conversations...we headed back to the house. What to do next??? The Northwest YMCA Waterpark was the final decision, and a GREAT one it was for all. The 3 older kids enjoyed the lazy river, slides and pools, and Kyley and mommy had fun walking into the deeper waters and sitting in the wading pool for a few hours. Kyley loves the water, and we found another place for her to enjoy!
Although the weather changed up our weekend plans, we still managed to find MANY things to do and have a great time. We ended the weekend by going to dinner at Carraba's. It was a yummy dinner, and everyone was ready to crash when the night was over! We cannot wait for more fun with our family!
